What is a decent hotel to stay in Melbourne CBD for 18 year olds that is also on the cheap side?
Ok... I stayed at a motel called the City Square Motel in April. I had some research to do at the library and couldn't be bothered travelling in and out of the city for three days so stayed two nights. The motel is VERY BASIC ... and suited me for what I needed.... was clean and comfortable. If though you are looking for a motel where you can come and go all night ... This is not the place for you as the front door is locked at 10pm and isn't unlocked until 8:00 am. But it's a great base for sight-seeing Melbourne during the day. http://www.citysquaremotel.com.au/
Melbourne CBD is not cheap but if there are a few of you, you can all chip in on a decent place. A good place to check is wotif.com and a search like the one I've done below will give you a long list from 5 star hotels down. Being 18, you might want to find a place near Flinders Lane where there are many bars so you can stagger and or crawl back afterwards.
- check out Base backpackers... Dorm room for a really cheap, or just a normal room for cheap and decent...
Travel Australia At A Third Of The Cost Of A Tank Of Petrol!!!!!!!!! Anyone looking to travel by station wagon across Australia with a Canadian couple around July 2nd-ish?????? We will be leaving from the brisbane area and heading south along the coast. We can pick you up along the way too. Just tell us where! The final destination is Perth. We will make many stops along the way and are also VERY open to suggestions in regards to where you might want to go. If your interested please call Julie or Adam at 0401935175, or email adam at arson504@hotmail.com Or For starters....stay away from any of the "roach motels" near the pavilion. Especially "By-the-sea". It should be labeled "Dump-by-the-Sea". The window was broken in the bathroom (it wouldn't close and was located right beside the Pool area). No free ice, no working refrigerator, nasty linens and everything. You get what ya pay for. Cheap room equals filthy accommodations. On the other end of the spectrum our stay at the CROWN REEF was "fantabuloso". It was one year old when we stayed there and we were impressed. The swamp fox (now called compass cove) was also nice. It was not as clean as we would have liked but it is an older place. Also, the whispering surf (across the street from the beach) is a dud! We had an excellent (ha) view of an alley with a non stop barking dog. Save yourself the bucks and don't go there. The sea horn is nice for what you pay. It's not extravagant, but neither are the rooms. It does have an odor but the staff is pretty nice. This year, we tried to go back to crown reef, but they're all booked up. We're trying the LANDMARK. I've been reading and find nothing negative in the remarks that have submitted. Sure hope it's everything we expect it to be. The WORST restaurant is FLO's!!!!!! The alligator tasted like... (well, I am trying to come up with a description, but my vocabulary fails me in this...), the hats hanging overhead are dusty, stinky, and I was afraid that any minute some dirt or dust was going to fall on us. We ate outside and the scenery out there was no better. Swampish and sewer looking pipes were everywhere. Save your money. The alligator ribs, alligator stew, and gator hushpuppies were terrible. I'll stick to red lobster. I have found that Damons ribs are great. (yum) Other great places to eat are Texans steak house and Thorneys. Breakfast at Woodhaven is the best. Clean and the staff is great. -- anonymous (canaday@wcgnet.net) - 7/09/01

Good service, clean rooms and right on spencer street ( about 10 metres away from melbourne cbd's largest train station) You can choose between a variety of different rooms & levels.
